Did you know that those antioxidants I’ve been trying to get you to eat are also anti cancer foods as well? An article in the Reader’s Digest suggests the following foods help prevent cancer:
Garlic, Broccli, Brazil Nuts, Citrus, Blueberries, Artichokes, Fatty Fish (Salmon, Mackerel, Halibut, Sardines, and Tuna), Kiwi, Onions (especially raw onions) and Sauerkraut
As well as the anti cancer qualities touted by the article, all of these foods also have antioxidant properties.
Ever since I have been actively involved in teaching others about G6PDD, by far the largest complaint has been the foods we have to avoid. Although we do have to avoid many things, we are also admonished to eat more antioxidants. And if you look at the list of antioxidants on the website, it is a hefty list. When you start adding these foods to your menu, you will find that your menu becomes more diverse and flavorful.
Remember the number one rule for better meals. Keep the meal colorful. The more colors you employ, the more nutritious your meal will be. Be creative. You will enjoy cooking and preparing your family’s meals and you will get more complements.
I have known for a long time that oxidative stress (the trigger that causes G6PDD people to hemolyze) also has a negative effect on cancer and aging. Maybe its time to make sure everyone else knows it as well. G6PDD can be a blessing if we adhere to the avoid lists and the diet suggestions at http://g6pddeficiency.org. A lot of people have told me over the years that their whole family feels better when they do this. So, bite the bullet and try it yourself. You’ll be happy you did and your family will enjoy great tasting anti cancer foods as well.
