Staying Healthy with G6PD Deficiency Cookbook

Hi. My name is Dale.

Dale BakerFor most of my life I thought I had licked G6PDD. I had always followed my doctor’s recommendations for what to avoid. Basically, sulfa drugs, aspirin, mothballs and fava beans.

However, in my late forties, my health deteriorated to the point where I was afraid I was going to be wheelchair bound. I had no feeling in my hands and feet and my joints were hurting quite badly. Thinking was difficult. Basically, my body was failing me and I was forced into early retirement.

After spending thousands of dollars on medical tests, my doctors still didn’t have a clue what was wrong with me. I asked doctors if G6PD Deficiency could have anything to do with my health issues. They all said “no”. But something kept telling me that they were wrong.

So, in 2000 I started a search for answers. I read everything I could about health issues that would cause my symptoms. Nothing fit. In 2006, I started looking at G6PD Deficiency as a possible reason and finally found a forum that changed my life.

I discovered I wasn’t alone. Others were having similar symptoms. But there was very little information available about G6PDD. I decided to change that and created

People started joining my G6PDD forum and asking about their G6PDD problems and, as time progressed, I began putting the pieces together. The biggest problem is that there wasn’t (and still isn’t) a standard for what triggers G6PDD symptoms (hemolysis). Some forum members even purchased hemoglobin meters to find out what caused hemolysis. Over the next few years I meticulously compiled the current lists of foods and drugs to avoid. They are the most accurate and complete avoid lists I am aware of, as attested by the numerous comments from people who have put my diet to the test.

I also added something that no one else had ever thought about: What does the body need to overcome the problems G6PDD can cause? So, it was back to doing more research.

After publishing my diet suggestions on the website, people began asking for recipe books. My diet was making a huge difference in the lives of people with G6PDD. And, to my surprise, it was also helping people who don’t have G6PDD.

As for me, I feel better today than I have in many years and recent test results show that my body is doing a much better job of repairing the damage done from not knowing what to eat and what to avoid. I wrote Staying Healthy with G6PD Deficiency so others don’t have to go through what I have.

Prevention is so much better than cure.
